These are some of our favorite youth-led organizations building a safer, healthier Chicago.
Assata's Daughters
Assata’s Daughters is a Black woman-led, youth-directed organization that provides programming to deepen, escalate, and sustain the Black Liberation movement. They provide services for, run political education programs for, and organize for and with young people, particularly young Black people.
Chicago Freedom School
Chicago Freedom School has youth programs and trainings that support young people in becoming critical thinkers, organizers, facilitators, & activists through studying movements and using healing practices to intervene in cycles of violence.
A Long Walk Home Girl/Friends Leadership Institute
A Long Walk Home works to end gender violence and racism. Their Girl/Friends Leadership Institute is a year-long arts and activism program that empowers Black girls from Chicago to find their creative voices and advocate for justice in their schools, communities, and the larger city of Chicago.
Chi Nations Youth Council
Chi-Nations Youth Council is a diverse group of youth and adults, with a mission to create a supportive open environment for Native/Indigenous Youth, to raise awareness of cultural identity and promote a healthy lifestyle through arts, activism, and education.
Yollocalli Arts Reach
Yollocalli is an open community center in Little Village that has free arts and culture programming for teens and young adults. They have equipment and studios for lots of kinds of art (music, visual, video, etc.) and supportive staff to help.
Young Cultural Stewards
Young Cultural Stewards provides programming for youth ages 5-25 that aims to connect young people with nature, art and culture, and each other. Their programs involve visits to local parks and gardens, meeting activists and ecologists, and creating art.
Mikva Challenge
Mikva Challenge helps young people develop the skills needed to be involved community leaders and create real change in the world.
GoodKids MadCity
GoodKids MadCity is an organization of Black and Brown young people united in fighting to end violence in their cities through getting more resources for their communities and providing peacekeeping services by youth, for youth.
Good Kids Mad City Englewood
GKMC-Englewood brings young together to build unity, nurture healing, and create a thriving community. The organization aims to fight gun violence, create healing spaces, and help young people take part in creating change in their neighborhood.
Black Youth Project 100
BYP100 is a member-based organization of Black youth (18-35 year-old) activists creating justice and freedom for all Black people.
