Keia’s personal experience and interest in chronic pain and chronic illness has led her to approach massage therapy from the lens of gentle healing, with the belief that her work is to be a facilitator, helping the client to be supported and empowered to heal themselves.
About Keia
Keia’s journey to massage therapy began by experiencing firsthand the benefits of massage and bodywork in her own healing and management of chronic pain. This has allowed her to approach her work with a deep understanding of those who experience living with chronic illness, applying this knowledge in her sessions to meet the unique needs of each client. She believes that soothing the nervous system is the first step in allowing the body to help heal itself. Keia has a background in visual art and herbalism. She graduated from the New School for Massage in 2025.

What to Expect
Intake forms will be emailed to you once an appointment is booked. Please fill this out prior to the appointment. Upon arrival, please notify reception that you are here for a massage with Keia.
Keia will greet you in the waiting room and walk you to the massage room. Once in the massage room, you will have the opportunity to share what you would like worked on during the sessions along with any emotional, and/or physical affects you are currently experiencing. Keia will then step out of the room and allow you to dress down to your comfort level, including staying fully clothed if that is the most comfortable. Once ready, you can lie down on the massage table underneath the sheet. Keia will knock on the door before re-entering the room to ensure you are ready to begin the massage.
After the massage, Keia will leave the room again to allow for time to transition off of the table and get dressed. Once you are dressed, Keia will check in and offer follow-up and/or self-care suggestions.
If the client is receiving only reiki, they will stay completely clothed. If the client is receiving reiki in addition to a massage session, the reiki portion will take place directly after the massage while the client is still on the massage table. Keia will ask the client beforehand if she has permission to place her hands on the client at the different energetic centers or if the client prefers to have her hover her hands over them. She will then hold each energetic center starting from the top of the head to the feet, allowing the universal life force energy to funnel to and through the client.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a form of energy work in which the practitioner engages with th energetic centers of the client. In the lineage that Keia practices, she works with the seven main chakras on the body. Reiki originates from Japan and translates to rei universal, and ki, life force energy. In a reiki session, energy is not created nor given by the practitioner, but rather the practitioner is a facilitator or channel for the universal energy around us. It is within this belief that the energy within us can sometimes become stuck or blocked, depleted or in excess. Reiki seeks to help promote movement within the energetic body of the client. Reiki is not a replacement for primary medical care or medication and does not claim to cure any medical conditions. However, clients often report feeling more relaxed and grounded after a session, making it a natural accompaniment to a massage or bodywork session. Reiki is not a religion nor associated with any religious beliefs. It is a gentle modality that works towards promoting a state of calm and peace within the client.
If you have any questions about reiki, please feel free to reach out to Keia by emailing contact@byhearthandandplant.com.
