In Memory: Louise Champlin

Louise Storytelling At Fyos

Our beloved Louise Champlin, health worker and CWHC collective member of 30 years, passed away on Saturday, November 19th. Louise is deeply missed by her family, the collective, our clients, and our community. Every aspect of CWHC and feminist health care in Chicago has been profoundly shaped by Louise’s fierce and loving spirit. We are heartbroken that she has passed on, but we are humbled and honored to continue the legacy that she has passed on to us all.

Louise

A tunnel to China
is not so deep
and its great wall
not so long
and Pluto
not so far away

and damn the great society
the Northern Lights
rudimentary at best
oh the Starry Starry nights
and the 8 wonders of the world
be damned
the drum beats on and on

But let us talk
extraordinary
bee's and pollination
A Queen Mab speech
a simple soul
exquisite and divine

let us talk awe
deep as the ocean
a tingling wind chime
no chain of asylum
or shoulder of Atlas
ever held a candle
as bright as my sweet Louise
