Celebrate "Love Your Body" Day Today!
Posted on October 16
The National Organization for Women (NOW) has declared today, October 17th, as National Love Your Body Day. Take this opportunity to love your body and yourself, and share this self-acceptance with those around you! Today we celebrate our bodies, despite Hollywood and the Fashion, Cosmetics, and Diet Industries, which “work hard to make us believe that our bodies are unacceptable and need constant improvement.” Click here to read more about the day and take the Love Your Body Survey to share your opinion on the media’s representation of women’s bodies.
Mainstream media and other cultural institutions continually objectify and sexualize women. We hope to challenge the idea that a woman’s value is best measured through her willingness and ability to embody such narrow and unrealistic beauty standards.
Today is a time to embrace an attitude of self-acceptance and love, and to share with those around you. Let us fight against the industries that perpetuate sexualization and objectification, and thank those who use affirming, diverse images to embrace healthy and inclusive images of women!
