Counseling

Español

In 1989, Chicago Women's Health Center began offering counseling services, emphasizing the values of education and self-help. We offer individual counseling, options counseling and crisis counseling, as well as groups and workshops.

We use a feminist and person-centered counseling approach, valuing equality in the counseling relationship, and see our role as providing support and insight into a client's experiences. We pay particular attention to clients' concrete needs as well as the impact of various forms of oppression such as gender oppression, racism, classism and homophobia.

CWHC's counselors are master's level clinicians who volunteer their time in the counseling program. Our counselors are experienced in working with a range of presenting issues including depression, anxiety, childhood trauma, sexual assault, domestic violence, relationships, gender, sexuality, and health concerns.  Individual counseling sessions are typically weekly 50 minute sessions.

Counseling services are provided on a sliding scale based on income and the number of people supported on that income. The scale ranges from $90-$25 per session. Client fees are vital to the well-being of CWHC and allow us to continue providing affordable care. When you come to CWHC you are not just receiving affordable services you are partnering with us in providing affordable services for others as well.  This means that we ask people who can pay more, to pay more, and people who can pay less, to pay less, to keep services affordable for all.

An in-office intake is required to receive counseling services at CWHC. The fee for intake is $35. The purpose of the intake is to learn more about you and what brings you to counseling as well as offer you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the way we work.
